Cleaning oil cooler and oil tank
Hi folks,
I want to know if it is O.K. to clean my oil cooler (engine mounted) and oil tank in a parts cleaner containing kerosene? Is there a better way to clean these parts yourself? Thanks in advance, -LeoD

Rinsing out an oil cooler will not be enough if the cooler is being cleaned due to an engine failure. See this recent thread about cleaning oil coolers

Thanks for the reply chris,
I did'nt have an engine "failure". I'm rebuilding a leaky motor and taking the opportunity to do a bunch of performance upgrades. I decide that I might as well have them ultrasonically cleaned while I'm at it... Thanks again, -LeoD

You going to have the motor done in time for NHIS this weekend?

Not sure how most shops ultrasonically clean, but I'd suggest they consider using heated/hot solvent during the cleaning process. The higher temperature might increase the passage size to allow more trapped particles to escape.

I would have the parts "professionally" ultrasonically cleaned. the things just to darn expensive to do otherwise.
