Building turbo racing engine?

Hello

I need some advice on what the best course of action is with regards to building up a turbo racing engine.

what is the best engine to start with? what are the best parts to invest in first? I want to keep this engine low tech as it will be in a 917 Replica *I know they had a flat 12 but I can't afford $220,000*

I was thinking something along the lines of a 935 type engine?

please let me know and steer me in the direction of the right places/people to talk to!

Thanks!

One of the 917 replica builders made a flat 12 by combinging 2 2.7l 911 engines with Webers. There is a picture and some more info here:
