Will a 3.2 Carrera oil pump...

...fit in a 7R case with no mods?

I put a 3.2 pump in my 1976 930 case years ago. I have to take all the 3.2 oil pumps hardware (use the 3.2 drive line) because my original 3.0L oil pump was much shorter and had a longer drive rod. I also had to change my sump cover to accommodate the 3.2 oil pickup. Last but not least, I did have to modify the internal case wall structural web reinforcement on the sides of the engine case because the 3.2 pump is much thicker. If you need to replace your oil pump I highly recommend this "upgrade". I didn't need to replace my oil pump but decided to go this route because my turbo was running so hot here in the Texas heat.

Update to 3.2 Pump Fitting

I need to apologize and correct myself. While I still believe everything I said in my response to your question is correct, I now see that it was a 964 (3.6) oil pump that I installed in my 1976 930 case. If my memory serve me correct, I believe the 964 pump was cheaper also.

You need a different sump plate to fit the attached strainer. No big deal, and otherwise it will fit. The turbo pumps, and the 964 and later, are the ones requiring some clearancing and a shorter splined connecting tube.
