Pistons/Cylinders replacement 80sc
Got word from Ollie's that my Pistons/Cylinders will need replacing. Looking at the Porsche parts diagram, there seems to be a variety of options for the 80- P/C replacements.
After doing some research it is recommended that you find the appropriate part number based on the markings / weights of the original P/C's. Question that I am having trouble answering is does it really matter which set you order if you are replacing all 6 P/C's? Aiming for a near stock engine rebuild is for a 1980 911SC Weissach |

Send the cylinders to EBS, open them up to 97mm and a set of 3.1 JEs
Reasonable options. Bruce |

be aware that EBS could be sending out cylinders with too rough surface roughness by far, that will be guaranteed to burn oil. As they did to me and many others. Specify Ra 4-5 (similar to Mahle cylinders) or you may get Ra16 which will not work at all but burn oil for ever. Expensive learning but if you specify you should be good, Also have measures what you got before assembly

Thanks for the info Bruce.
Trond, I ended up going with just a new 95mm Male set with euro spec'd 9.8:1 compression (P/N: 930 103 983 03) directly from EBS. I do plan on machining up my original cylinders at some point so I will keep this in mind! Appreciate the input |

We used EBS for 3.6L to 3.8L and JE pistons - - after 10 years of racing the pistons and cylinders are still in excellent condition - we are having an engine rebuild with a newer crankshaft and Ollies says everything is good . . . Regards, Roy T 2012 New Parts and EBS reconditioned cylinders: ![]()

I like the idea and will probably use it in a future build. Glad to here the JE pistons hold up well even after 10 years of racing! |

changing to WebCams 20-21 for more torque -- and a Dyno tune by Steve Wong to get durability into the 964 engine - - we also use 100 octane unleaded fuel mostly to cool the heads - - the increase from 3.6L to 3.8L probably is insignificant and happened because EBS was reconditioning the cylinders and happened to have the 102mm JE pistons available for no cost increase . . . 277 RWHP 255 RWTorque . . . Amsoil 15/50 Race Oil helps significantly for durability . . . Regards, Roy T
