Fuel Regulator Damper-‘86 3.2
I’m replacing my damper because it was leaking and the attached vacuum hose sucked up the leaking fuel directly into the throttle body. Engine complained terribly finally giving up the ghost completely. Looking at my OEM damper, I note that there is a bolt at the bottom which holds a bracket and also plugs a threaded hole into the diaphragm cavity. The bolt and washer are precisely machined to seal onto the cavity hole. Is the bolt supposed to have a gasket to seal the cavity from the atmosphere? If not, atmospheric pressure would in time pass through into the cavity. BTW, the PET does not show a gasket.

It’s a blind hole, nothing needed.

Thanks guys for clarifying. Just got a new damper (apparently last one in all of Canada) so fingers crossed.
Cheers, Johan

Tony,
Your post was very helpful and got me thinking. I don’t have a vacuum tool, so I Jerry-rigged a pressure test gismo from an old fuel line, stuck a vacuum line on to the damper with the other end in water, applied 50 psi air pressure and Voila!… Bubbles immediately appeared from the tube end in the water. ![]() ![]() Cheers, Johan

Troubleshooting..........
Johan,
The test for the fuel damper is very similar to testing a fuel accumulator. Applying pressure to the damper will confirm the integrity of the diaphragm. Using low air pressure is sufficient for the test. Good job. Tony |
