Amazing. Such a beautiful engine. How much does one of these beautiful engine cost to build
|
Do you have a sound clip/video of dyno pull?

Not that bad a price when you consider that a new four cam Carrera engine from these guys started at $157,000 back in 2012…. https://www.capricorngroup.net/en/works/products/ |
Cool, good numbers, imagine that with 6 cylinders! ;)

Don’t have a sound clip/video of this engine dyno run
Did sound clip /video of first Polo engine dyno run in August, but clip too large to post. Can send it to private email if anyone wants it? |
I stay in contact with Dean. If I remember correctly inflation has caused the base price to be in the low 70’s. Jeff and I have had some very interesting talks over the last couple weeks. He has really come up with great ways to get great hp and tq out of his POLO engines. Enough to cause me to think about adding some additional power to mine. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyWMnx1yxvc
The engine has 23.000 miles on it now. My engine made 160 rear wheel hp at 6000 feet on a Denver suburb chassis dyno 10 years ago. It has a better tune now. Maybe add 10% at the crank, and another 10% for altitude. So I’m quessing 190 to 195 hp on an engine dyno at sea level. As you can see Jeff’s component picks and acquired knowledge over the last decade have advanced this engine to a whole new level. He has taken power performance beyond 73RS levels and my car has 72/73 911S hp and 911E tq and taken around 80 pounds off the rear of a 911 car and added about 25 pounds to a 912 car. The top picture is of a car I'm building for a friend. It's a 2.7 POLO. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670428490.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670428490.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1670428490.jpg |

Thanks I guess... Now I want one. Pretty impressive stuff!! |
Is that an electromotive "Tec" install on that car?
|
It is an Electromotive TEC engine management system w/TWM throttle bodies installed by Clewett Engineering
|
Yes Electromotive. Unfortunately they are temporally or permanently out of business. I have been looking for a spare Tec-GT unit as a backup. If I do some upgrades that I have covered with Jeff lately, I'll probably go Motec. The upgrades will cost about what I paid for the engine 11 years ago.
Things are getting rather pricey these days as this engine is built in very small production numbers and inflation has caused price increases all along the supply chain. I am very grateful that Jeff has done a tremendous amount of research to come up with his current engine specs. I've tried to help the longhood POLO crowd over the last decade as my car was the only one out there. 230,000 pageviews on the Early 911S Reg. alone and over 3/4 Million more on others including here my site and 3 or 4 other sites. With guys like Jeff it is becoming more of a collaborative environment. And that's better for everyone involved. Imagine there are only 10 or 12 911's in the world and some of them are still being built. That's were we are today. I've been looking forward to the day when I would have friends who owned one of these 912 SUPERS and converse like you 911 guys. The 5 main bearing case is only 16 inches long. Being aluminum and so short with 5 main bearings the case is incredibly strong. If I remember correctly, Dean said the cases are cast at the same foundry in the greater LA area that cast aluminum Nascar blocks. Here are a couple pictures of these engines. Help me understand why someone would spend that kind of coin on an engine and then run that junk for an ECU?
|
Sorry, I think I assumed someone bought one of these engines new recently and put a tec3 on it, after rereading I don't think that's the case. At least I hope so.

Ecu
My engine was built using a MOTEC ECU . I have knock sensor bosses on the cylinders but Dyno tuned it w/a M84 MOTEC . No indications w knock under load or at high temps under load.
I subsequently purchased a MOTEC M-1 w/knock software and made up a new engine harness w/ new coil on plug ignition; I also purchased 993 knock sensors and bridges but did not install them because at his time, I don’t want to spend the Dyno time retuning the engine w/the new ECU This has been a long project time wise as to both the engine and body/chassis mods and I want to get some hours on the engine. I also had a higher performance cam ground but want to see how I like the one currently in the car. Same with the current transmission gearing. I’ts just a slippery slope… and I want to enjoy some road time for now |
I have the POLO with the Electromotive ECU. I had gone 20 years without a Porsche when I altered the car in 2010. I didn't know that Motec even existed at that time. That being said, I've driven from sea level to the top of Pikes Peak, (14K) with this ECU and the car idles perfect. It makes 190hp at sea level and gets 30 mpg driving from Golden Colorado to Carpinteria California at 80 mph. The engine is sneaking up on 30,000 miles with no issues. Had I known what I know now I would have used a different ECU. I now have a spare NOS ECU. I spent a lot of time dialing in the program and have it on a thumb drive. It would only take 15 minutes to change it out if need be.
Here is a picture of Jeff Zwart on Pikes Peak with his new toy and my car. We spent 20 minutes looking over each others cars. He was taking a break from training some drivers how to run the course. Chris Pomares http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725630271.JPG |
