So I am a little late to change direction on my build but figured I would open myself for some criticism. When I discussed this engine with Fred Apgar his response was "your going to run out of air at 160 mph". Fred was pushing me to increase the size of the intake ports.
My original intent with this build was to avoid opening up the intake ports, as this seems to mandate expensive mods to CIS or going with EFI to provide proper fuel at higher rpm. So a more powerful stock engine using every upgraded bolt on engine part I could source within my small budget. I didn't really consider that the SC cam may not be ideal for this goal until reading this thread. 1986 911 turbo Been off the road for about 20 years now, 68,000 original miles, I am the second owner. I opened the engine due to wear of a few rockers and cam lobes. Plus the fear of the unknown inside the engine. Heads refreshed with New TRW sodium cooled valves Eibach valve springs Colsibro valve guides (from Chris Seven before his passing) Intake and exhaust ports left stock diameter. So heads are essentially stock SC cams, freshened with pump drive added by Dougherty racing cams Supertec rocker arms Supertec head studs 964 turbo head gaskets modified to fit the 3.4 cylinders and the larger head studs balanced rotating group Supertec rebuilt oil pump with REM super finished gears New standard main bearings ARP rod bolts in stock rods with AA coated bearings Mahle motorsports 3.4 liter pistons and cylinders Rarly8 headers and exhaust BB short neck intercooler. David, you have a very different build from what was a discussed earlier in this thread. You are using boost, which changes pretty much everything.
In a supercharged or turbocharged engine, you do not want high overlap cams, because the boost will push the intake charge out the exhaust. Thus SC cams work well. If you want to change cams, then discuss it with a cam vendor tech representative. Really, the easiest thing for you to do is just crank up the boost. Consider installing an improved intercooler. You should also start a thread on the sub forum for turbocharged engines.

We have a set of Turbo cams ground already to SC spec. Never installed.

I was asked to help with some cam choices, looks like an old thread. Jeff Alton has some good cams for a turbo and reputable. M1 cam is best for CIS pistons with any induction but maybe a little big for turbo application. William

"Best" is always an interesting claim. What makes the M1 cam the "best" when your only specification is the CIS piston dome?
