I知 still looking for a 35 tooth crank gear

Hello, I知 looking for a 35 tooth crankshaft gear. This would be the gear used on 964, 993 and turbo 996痴, that presses on to the nose of the crankshaft. This is the the gear that drives the intermediate shaft.
Thanks Pio

I tried that and no luck either, so I figured I壇 post it where all the engine builders are. Oh well

I recommend checking with a reputable automotive parts supplier or contacting a Porsche dealership to inquire about the availability of a 35 tooth crankshaft gear for your specific model. They should be able to provide you with information on pricing and availability.

The 964, 993, and 996 twin turbo drive and intermediate gears come as a matched set. The dealer probably won't sell it.
I would try Autobahn Porsche Dismantling

Mr Schmidt you hit the nail on the head. There are two separate part numbers for essentially the same exact parts. One is 993 105 911 56 and the other is 996 105 911 70 with two different prices. The 996 one is around $900 and the 993 is around $1250. The reason it痴 so much is that it comes as a complete set, all gears and intermediate shaft.

Further, I知 assuming that Porsche sells it this way is that 964, 993 and the turbo 996 IMS gear is made of steel and not aluminum and probably not a good idea to mix gears. Sort of like a ring and pinion.

Matching the steel gear sets is simply an attempt to minimize vibration to reduce gear noise. They set the gear up up in a test bench and spin them through the rpm range and measure the vibration. Their is a tolerance at which the noise level will be acceptable. I assume they mix and match gears until they meat the desired specification. Mixing the gears is probably not that risky because modern gears are pretty precise.
That said: Some of the new after market transmission gears are not tested to this extent and the result is sometimes a noticeable whine.

I mixed 2 sets of 993 steel gears I bought at a deep discount, non matching intermediate shaft & crank gears. I patterned the gears with marking compound just to see and measured backlash at four points with perfect results. Backlash was much better than any ALU gears I’ve checked. They have been in the engines 10 yrs with no problems.
One set went into a race engine with factory scatter oil filter that was always full of ALU filings, probably because of heavy valve springs. After installing the steel gears no more ALU in the filter. Just my observation.

Thanks for the input Gled49 . I have replaced similar style gears in Muncie and Borg warner transmissions without any issues, so I figured if I ran a pattern and checked backlash it would work out. The motor I知 building is meant to be used on the street so it won稚 be seeing 8000 rpm.
