ARP Crankcase bolt confusion

Hello

I am rebuilding my 930 Turbo engine and have a question about the ARP bolt kit.

I started to find out what bolts fits where. Most are clear, but some I have no idea. Normally there is kind of manual added to the ARP kits, but here there is none. Asked them, they can't...
Does some of you have made or found a list of the bolts lengths allover the case?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679404179.JPG

The M8 to bolt together the two case halfes I have found all by comparing (PET gives sizes for most) and check in positions. But some are still unknown. I guess the kit fits several different cases

For example those look like transmission mount, but are short (short bell?)

Those are the most unknown, note two are narrow like for the oil gallery, but main crankcase bolts are a seperat set and I have it, so no place left

Why, to what end these will be better than stock?

Everyone isn’t as poor as we are Bruce. I think that every time I see the fancy cylinder hold down nuts.

Good question. I answered this in my other "main" thread, but short said: Had to replace all of them. When you buy them (some are NLA) at Porsche they are very expensive summed up. A lot of them are unique sized, so not available or for silly price at hardware suppliers

I tried to sort out what I know, I think and I don't have any idea. Fitted the ones I am sure about on the case:

lengths below are visible part (without lower thread, surface to top end of thread without cone and those without stop thread to thread

What I am pretty shore to where:

Hmm pic missing....

What I guess to where (except the long ones):

What I have no idea (maybe the three M8x22 for oil pump, but not no locking plate then):

do some of these studs go on the outside of the case. Thinking about throttle pivot studs.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679519853.jpg

Also things like studs for Timing chain housings and oil cooler.

Thanks John

Thottle pivot I thought as well, the shorter ones maybe, but should be 8x25, 8x28, the long has no measurement in PET, but around 8x62, so rather no.

Cam housing to crankcase I have found already. So no. Oil cooler are 8x15, for 964 filter console I have it has to be 8x25, bit short but could be fine. I'll probably use them there if no other place is found.

Update: One M8x31 must be the only one with nuts on both sides (OE is hexagon bolt)

Thank you. Found some in the parts catalog, but all models in one is nice

proffighter 03-23-2023 12:33 PM

Found out some more:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1679515941.JPG

1st one is for #7 mainbearing for sure, but have it already in the main bolt set for crankcase.

the two largest are for main bearing #1 but will not fit a 930 case as they are 5mm shorter and thread is not M10x1 but M10x1.5 wich is not as strong. Lucky as I am I hav e them as well in the main bolt kit.

So only a few left. M8x22 I will use for the 965 oil filter console. M8x31 I have not found where, but let's see where I can use them. Finally the M6x30 still no idea where:

I don't know what instructions are called out for installation, but I would use Loctite to secure each stud into the aluminum, this will limit the galvanic corrosion that occurs between stainless studs in aluminum parts. Without Loctite those may seize in the case due to corrosion.....

Correct. I used Loctite 270 on the main bolts M10 and 243 on all M8

I was very confused but after asking ARP, there are NO insttructions at all for this kit (against the Main bolt kit and the head studs)

M6’ probably oil breather

Unfortunately, no. They are the M6x20 I called case vent

Walt Fricke 03-27-2023 02:59 PM

I thought M6 for oil breather also. You need something there, though hardly a critical fastener. Also, 3 M6 for the IS shaft end plate. 2 M6 for the engine oil thermostat. But 30mm? All would seem to be shorter than that, as none of these flanges are thick.

That bullnose on these ARP studs is trick - makes it a hair easier to get the nut started. Though that is really helpful only for the head studs.

If you have 6mm holes but no studs, you could quite safely just purchase ordinary studs from the usual sources for those. If your IS bearing is flanged, even the IS cover isn't subject to any forces from the running engine.

For oil thermostat and IS cover I use (and have used without any issue) high strenght aluminum bolts. But those ARP i already found. Will use the left ones somewhere else. Let's see during the building. Maybe some left at the end as spares.
