3.2 (Motronic) Twin Plug- Stock Pistons?
Hi All,
Long time reader, new to posting. Bought my beloved 1980 911SC row Petrol Blue from a fellow Pelican junkie back in 2019. Along with the car, I purchased a 3.2 Twin Plug setup that Bob ( Previous Owner) had sourced to eventually go with the car, along with many, many other goodies. Well some years later, I have decided to finish the car. The motor was described to only have ran 5k miles since it was built, and swapped out for a Turbo motor circa 2006. Sitting since, I subsequently had the valve covers, fan, fan housing, timing covers etc etc. We never stripped it down and pulled heads as the valve seats looked incredibly clean, leaked down 0% etc Well , motor is all pretty, in the car, and ready to have SW burn a chip. Turns out it is a stock 3.2 pistons ! Why someone would go through all the trouble of porting, polishing heads, inatake mani, throttle body, twin plug modification etc to have stock CR is beyond me. I cannot emotionally handle a full rebuild at this time. My question is.. Do you guys see any point / benefit in utuilzing the twin plug heads given the stock pistons. If not any benefit, any risk? When I can figure out how to add photos , I will do just that! TIA Brian |

Twin plug heads won't work with stock 3.2 pistons. The stock pistons have a lump on one side of the piston to push the combustion chamber towards the single plug. The twin plug pistons have a different shape.

Maybe so, but there's been no response from the OP in a couple months. Let sleeping dogs lie.

Why would that matter? When single plug heads are machine for a second plug, that plug goes in the same place as it would on a real twin plug head. If it is a stock 3.2L piston, it is designed specifically for a single plug setup.
