3.2 hot rod

guys I haVE A few questions. I have 3.2 engine that I am planning and I also have a 95 993 engine that I have been collecting parts for another build.

Can the 993 cam towers be used on the 3.2? If so can the hydraulic lifters be incorporated? I also have DME, wire harness and complete injection system I know intakes are 3 bolts vs regular 911 two bolts but other than that could I use and mix 993 components but with a slightly smaller displacement. Thinking 98mm pistons to a 3.4.

I look forward to hear everyone's thoughts. Jim

How do you plan on oiling the cams with the 3.2L case?

Why would you want hydo lifters on a performance built engine. We are building a performance 3.8RS and removing the stock lifters for solid, just like Porsche did. The stock 3.6 was built for an American market that wants to drive around at 2,000 rpm.

We figured that out a few years ago.

Totally get it and this is where my mind has been as I plan my builds BUT...I have considered the possibility of hydraulic conversion. I get the vintage desire and the performance potential..If you plan for your car to live mostly on the street and want to eliminate what is the most labor-intensive maintenance aside from oil changes and just drive your car - hydraulic seems like a modern convenience trade off for a few HP. In my 964 hotrod plans, I've considered varioram intake and hydraulic setup from the 993 generation to boost low-end torque for street driving while quieting down the valvetrain and giving up 500RPM. Also consider the recuded chances for oil leaks with the (more)modern valve cover arrangement. It seems like if you plan in advance for a hydraulic setup, you can have a great running engine.

All that said, I haven't decided yet which way I'm going. I certainly have more parts for the solid setup including cam towers and the cams themselves..

stanglife - exactly what I was thinking, but just did not express very well. For me it also comes down to the size of the exhaust port for an original 914-6 heat exchangers, and the engine tin bolting up and the front motor mount being strong enough to handle all the power, reason why I was leaning back towards a smaller but potent motor with modern electronics and hydraulic lifters that make the engine quieter and no more valve adjustments. Figured the 993 electronics ran 11:1 and possibly I could too and use dual plug heads and run 993 distributor almost like a mini 3.6 engine. Thank you all who have responded - Henry you are always so helpful.

Ben/Mb911 converts 993 exhaust to 914 configuration. He does a great job on it.
