installing crank oil filter console on a 2.7 or 3.0

Has anyone installed a crankcase oil filter console from 993 on to a 2.7 or 3.0 L eng.?
Wanting to find out if eliminating the stock oil cooler and replacing it with a oil filter console would be wish.

Any P-expert input would be welcome beside the humor.

People do it all the time. I've not used the 993 one personally, but do have a filter console in place of the cooler on a 2.7L mongrel engine. Works well. Some people like the 965 one better than the 993 because the filter mount is angled and you can fit a larger filter. Probably not a big deal for a street engine though.

If it is a street motor, you will want the onboard oil cooler. Race cars get so much wind over the front coolers, on board cooler is not necessary. Bob

Your 2.7 is a street rod and no overheating issues? What oil cooler setup do you have?

It's a 914/6 racecar with a large front mounted oil cooler. Good point to mention that if you are removing the engine mounted cooler, it's best to make improvements elsewhere in your oil cooling system to compensate.

I just want to delete stock engine cooler and use front cooler with a 911 stock thermostat . This thermostat is from a side mounted type.
Will the top engine thermostat cause a problem?

With the standard engine mounted thermostat, it'll just bypass the filter console when cold. There is an option to put a diverter in place of the engine mounted thermostat to send oil to the filter at all times if you wish.

Trying to get a picture in my head of this setup. So the oil cooler is replaced by a couple of parts that fit where the oil cooler would go. Then the front oil cooler becomes the only oil cooler. I that it?

Yes, there is front cooler with a 911 thermostat controlling it.
In addition, a crankcase oil filter housing installed where stock oil cooler was.
There will be two oil filters, One on the oil tank side and on the oil filter housing.
I have the original 914-6 oil tank on the car.
Oil temp never goes beyond 140.

Seems easy enough to replicate the cooler side.

@svaldez the part number you posted above appears to be an external thermostat. The factory did make some kind of engine thermostat replacement. I’m not familiar with that part, but the aftermarket diverter i mentioned is available from a few vendors, including JB Racing. The part they make is a copy of the part Porsche put on its race cars for many years, because they also had a filter in place of the engine mounted cooler.

I was thinking about this too. Hotrod 2.8 twin plug. But with twin front coolers it barely gets into operating range when on street. I was thinking about the 964 parts -- filter mount and diverter?
