3.2 Carrera cam, pistons and fuel injection questions...

Hi, after some years just driving my finished cars I decided to start working on projects again. For one car I have a 3.2 Carrera engine I bought 15 years ago. It is ready to rebuild, I have almost all the parts ready for it. However, I had a plan back then, but I can hardly remember anything of them.

I purchased the "Mod 3.2 cams" from a well known cam specialist somewhere in the US, cant remember the name (could it be "Camgrinder" here?) or what the Mod 3.2 stands for... any ideas wha I have?

One outstanding question is the compression ratio. I cant remember what kind of engine I bought! Is there a guide with pics to decide which pistons I have? I want the later 231 hp Euro pistons, or at least something with the same compression ratio. Or can anyone recommend a JE piston type? I would be happy with even more power.

Last question is the fuel injection; I bought the engine as a long block, without the FI. Any advice here on which route to go? Try to find an original setup, aftermarket, or carbs? Are there original FI setups available for reasonable money?

Any thoughts would be very appreciated!

Regards, Johan

For a street car, I'd just stick with the Bosch Motronic. Buying a whole system won't be cheap, but neither are the other options. The OE Motronic is well supported with aftermarket parts, chips, rebuilt ECMs, lots of literature, etc.

You can usually find a complete stock 3.2 motronic fuel injection with ecu and harness for $2-2.5k. Anything else will usually cost more and not work as well, at least right out of the box. Itb’s with aftermarket ecu can easily run $10-15k when all is said and done.

Hi, many thanks! Yes, the Motronic seems to be the best way to go. It is just to find a complete one for a resonable price that seems to be the problem.

Any thoughts on Weber 46s? It is for my 1970 T Coupé, so that would make it look more "stock". And, they will keep their value.

Regards,

Johan
