Hardware questions

Hello, building my first 911 engine, based on a 914/6 magnesium case. I have 2 questions regarding proper case hardware:

1. Can the Porsche acorn nuts for the thru bolts be replaced with ordinary acorn nuts, or do I need to pay $15 each for the factory nuts? Seems the same to me but I’m a novice. Belmetric has them for about a dollar

2. I plan to use nylock nuts for the case perimeter, is it ok to use stainless washers with those on the mag case? I’m not sure where to get the stronger aluminum washers I’ve seen recommended. ( or how to tell which are the strong ones)

Sorry for the dumb questions, thanks in advance for any help

Nate

I believe you will find that the places where aluminum washers are used are so they can deform. So aluminum for a reason. Single use.

Pelican sells both Porsche and aftermarket.

If you haven't already, download the PDF parts catalog from Porsche. It will allow you to get to individual Porsche part numbers that you can search and cross reference.

I have factory used through bolt sets for pre 78,
I’ve used steel washers for decades with nylons.
PM works best.
