Engine rebuild?

Hi experts,

I recently bought a '71 911 T Targa with a 2.4 T engine (engine type 911/57). Although the engine was out of the Targa and the Targa needs a full restoration, the seller advertised the 911 with a high compression (good) engine.

Bought it for a good price and brought it home. Pulled the sparkplugs and on all 6 pistions I see this indent as in the picture enclosed. Not good I suppose (T pistons shouldn't have that I believe). Pistons/valves bad?

The engine doesn't have an engine number. The casing is the 7R casing. Was it modified wrong in its previous life?http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1702152750.jpg

What plugs were in it when you pulled them?
Did they look stashed or did the PO change them?

That divot is a valve clearance cut out. If it was an E or S, it would be deeper.

Thanks for the replies! When I looked up pistons for a 2.4 T online, I got some other, maybe standard piston images. But this helps me out. Thanks!

The plugs that I took out are Bosch Super W3CC and look ok.

Possibly a 2.2 t piston that’s been fit on the 2.4 crank giving low 9.3 CR
