Re. the fuel distributor microswitch. It's just a set of contacts, not really a microswitch. Clean the contacts and it will be fine. It gets dirty over time and won't complete the ground circuit for the red relay coil. If you want to get rid of the air meter "switch" and red relay problems while still maintaining protection against the pumps continuing to run in event of an accident install a modern inertia switch to complete the pump relays coil circuit.

Any progress?

One lap around the engine before Mark picks it up.

A lot of grime in the bell housing. Looks like the transmission main seal was leaking.
The clutch and pressure plate look pretty good. I bought the car with 110k on the clock and the previous owner only had the car for 2 years and knew nothing of previous work. It looks like this clutch was changed at some time before. Throw out bearing rolls smooth too. Will be replacing all. The flywheel seems ok as well. Will likely resurface the flywheel or replace. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725196829.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725196829.jpg The engine and transmission are in Mark's hands now. Much appreciated that he came to pick it up. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725196829.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1725196829.jpg |
I know that motor is in good hands; looking forward to updates. :)

Getting most of the parts that were on the floor cleaned up a bit and boxed up to take to Mark's shop. The last item on the floor is the wire harness. All the wires and sheaths are hardened by time and temperature and I'm trying not to fold it up to box it. I would like to replace the harness but not sure if someone makes these. Calling Jeff Bowlsby.
One of the items to be cleaned up is the emissions air pipes going into the cat. The components of the system were removed by me in 2009 as the pump was not functional. To seal up the pipe to the cat at the time I cut and plugged the pipe connecting to the cat's pipes. Time to remove and cap the opening of the cat. Looks like the internals of the cat have melted in places and several large chunks came out and there's still some more chunks rattling around inside the cat. I'm assuming I'll continue to use the cat as long as it isn't plugged up inside. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732368657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732368657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732368657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732368657.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1732368657.jpg |
Member "timmy2" (Dennis Powell) makes harnesses. I highly recommend him.

PMB is having a black Friday sale they call Brake Friday on caliper restoration. I jumped on this for my 930 and will have all 4 restored. Next is to move the 930 to the lift and get the calipers removed, boxed, and shipped.

Is that a cat or something? Never seen that big clunk of iron before. Good work so far. It needed a cleaning up! :)

Are these other clutch cables worth saving some $$ or just go with Porsche OEM?

Transmission is being disassembled.
Notes about the internals: LSD not pulled apart yet but clutch disks appear very worn. All the consumable parts have been consumed due to mileage. Bearings have their hardened surfaces worn off. Replacing all worn parts. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734229799.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734229799.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1734229799.jpg |
Made some adjustments to the engine tin. I had previously added an O2 sensor and just snaked the wire between the tin and the rubber. For a cleaner transition a trough was cut into the rear tin. Looks to fit ok.
Also had to close up some holes on the side tins where the EGR hoses used to be. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736695636.jpg |
Lovely little tweak. How's the tranny work going?

Looking forward to seeing the engine and transaxle go together. :)

One last bit of fixing for the tins. During disassembly a bolt was rusted and I had a devil of a time getting it out. I couldn't hold the welded nut well and there was some movement and the hole was broken on the driver side rear tin.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg This part of the tin was all banged up. This is where the EGR belt went. The belt was already off when I purchased the car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg The lip was too small to directly weld up so I put a piece of tin over it and welded the extra piece in. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg All done. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1736743560.jpg |
