Pete
That was nastier than mine - glad you got it back up and running - the pics look good for Dougs MM compilation photos.

Dave
As soon as you mentioned a possible lack of cooling I though of the engine cooling plate (not sure if thats the correct name). Heres another couple of images of the plate that sits next to No 3 cyl. This is what I found when the engine was removed and began to remove the metal-work.

This is the outside which faces forward

And this is the inside, which is next to No 3 cyl

Sorry if the images arn't available, I've repeatedly attempted to display them. but to no avail.
Despite this, in verbal description the plates were rusted to the extent that there was virtually a 1/4 of the plate rusted away.
I'll try to display the images in the near future.

Cool pics Tom. I think it's choking on the parentheses.

Thanks for re-posting the images
Now can we talk engines - 'parenthesis'????? LOL
cheers

Speaking of uneven cooling, one of my 911s had that problem bad. Here's the root-cause I found:

Yes, it is a squirrel's nest.

The parentheses I was talking about were in your jpg image names, choking the HTML code, not chocking the cooling air to your engine.

Is this the culprit?

He looks like a squatter to me!, and there he is collecting his bed for installlation in the nearest Porsche 911. Gotta give him credit for his taste in location though.

That's him!!! He stashed nuts in the heat exchangers too. Took forever to get them out.
