Dont trust new trw valves

Just opened 6 brand new trw exhaust valves every single one is below Porsche wear limit of 8.938. Can’t wait for intakes to show up tomorrow!!!! Yay more wasted time and headaches.

Intakes came yesterday from our host all checked out fine. I got exhaust valves from another source, they didn’t come with boxes and I see trw has added a hologram to their boxes for authenticity. Wonder if I got some Chinese exhaust valves? Very interesting.

....very interesting. I have a set of new TRW valves from literally 15 years ago, all in the box.

When I redid my heads, I did not trust their sourcing well enough to risk using them so the head rebuilder put in nice Porsche valves which hopefully were better.

I guess I ought to measure them and see if they are decorations or really even contenders for use/sale.

Porsche valves here on pelican are $210 a piece, I’m not spending $2000 plus on valves
Ridiculous.

So TRW valves are made in Thailand WTF. Left is pelican TRW valve 2 in a box made in Thailand, right are exhaust valves I sourced elsewhere no box all out of spec. I’m sick and tired of trying to figure out who’s being honest and who is selling me junk under false pretenses.

If it will help, I will dig out my old TRW's and check them for dimensions...if they are any good, happy to sell them to you...I certainly do not need them.

Yeah, sourcing is getting to be a real crap shoot. That said, I wouldn't discount TRW valves made in Thailand out of hand. Like Bosch parts made in India, it very much depends on the manufacturing process and whether the parent company enforces adequate quality controls.

If the TRW valves are marginally undersize, you also could instruct your head rebuilder to ream the new guides to fit the valves, which they should do anyway. Much like honing cylinders to fit the pistons.

Dpmulvan,

Please take a good look at the stem head interface. I bought one cheap TRW for lapping and that interface was offset (Stem was not centered on head). The valves the machinist bought were perfect, they were TRW but much more expensive...
This was roughly in 2019. There was clearly a difference in quality which I did not appreciate at the time until I compared both (expensive TRW with cheap TRW, both had the same part number!).

Phil

Pete,
I have the machines to do my own heads and I thought about that but I’m not going to remove perfectly good valve guides so I can install POS valves. These valves aren’t even close and thickness varies up and down the shafts. I’m just wondering how they get away with selling this crap? Are people just slapping them in or what??

Thanks for the heads up.

in that case, I wouldn't pull out the guides either. The more I think about it, the more I think I would just reject them and try another source.

To top it all off I fill out a form for a return and they tell me I have 5 days to get them back or they won’t honor return. It took them 10 days to ship them to me.
