Dealing with broken case

Stud / bolt is broken off here on my 1970 911E case, along with a piece of the case - where one of the four bolts holds the engine to the rear bracket next to the fan pulley.

Assuming I can get the stud out, can the case be repaired, and if so, what's the best way?

That’s a tricky one, but yes a good welder can fill that area with tig and then you can have it drilled and tapped. I guess it depends where you live? And what resources are available.

Does it depend on the metal and whether it's a magnesium case?

I send my fans, transmissions, 3.2 intakes, engine cases, etc to MB911/Ben. He welds mag, aluminum, stainless, etc. if you have someone close by that is experienced in that type of repair, use them. If not, buy a 27 gallon plastic crate, wrap the case half in some HF moving blankets, zip tie the lid and send it off to Ben.

Magnesium can be welded no problem by a decent welder.

Just keep the fire extinguisher handy, I guess.

That engine has to be the most gunked up, dirtiest engine I've ever seen. LOL
