Engine camshaft condition opinion
I have a camshaft for an SC with a small pitted area in one lobe. The other camshaft has no pitting. I am looking for suggestions about what to do about it before reinstalling.
Thanks http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1740701221.jpg |
Repair/regrind. That is not getting better, only worse.
Contact John at DRCamshafts.com he is a frequent contributor hear and has done our camshaft work for countless years. Cheers |
Agree with Jeff. Now is the ideal time to have DR regind both cams. Have a close look at your rockers too, the bushing and faces.

Thank you gentlemen. Will do.

Given the need for regrinding, you might think about upgrading to a 964 profile.
This grind will reduce the base circle but the results are certainly withing reason. |

Based on Henry’s suggestion I did some research on PP about the 964 cam and ppl say you lose some mid range torque and gain hp on top. Is that your experience porschedude996?

Given the timing range of most cams in 911 engines, you can advance your cam timing to facilitate lower RPM range. How much you can advance the cams depends on your piston dome configuration. Early SCs used .9-1.3 as the range and later SCs used 1.4-1.7. Later SCs used small intake to also increase low end performance. Keep in mind that advancing the cams can/will affect dynamic compression. |
