3D Printable Camshaft Gear Alignment Tool for Porsche Aircooled Engines – Simple, Eff
![]() Hi everyone, I wanted to share a useful tool for those of you working on Porsche Aircooled engines — a 3D printable camshaft gear alignment tool. It’s designed to help you align the camshaft gears accurately during engine assembly. The tool works perfectly, but you might need to slightly file the holes to get a perfect fit, which is a quick and easy adjustment. It’s an affordable solution that gets the job done effectively. A small piece of aluminum plate is required to complete the tool, making it both effective and economical. This will give you the precision you need without the high cost of OEM tools. The file is available for download and printing, and I’m sharing this to help the community save time and money on their rebuilds. You can find the file here: https://www.printables.com/model/1269601-cam-sprocket-aligment As always, feel free to share feedback or suggestions to improve it further. I hope this tool helps out other Porsche enthusiasts! |

This is great, thanks.
Please describe the metal plate requirements. Is that a straight edge. Also, how is the straight edge held in place? I see the one on the left bolts in place of the Intermediate Shaft Cover, and the right hand onto the cam sprocket? Last edited by porschedude996; 04-20-2025 at 09:01 AM.. |

I think it is the one and same bit - reverse sides.
But I am wondering same Qs as you. I just figured I was the only one who couldn't figure it out. Alan

I think you’re correct. I see the slot on the underside of the rt image.
