Pilot Bearing for an '87 3.2l w/ 3.3 turbo Crank

I am in process of rebuilding my 3.2 l and because of the spun bearing I had to replace the crank. The only crank I could find was from a 3.3 Turbo. I went to install the Pilot bearing today and realized I had the wrong part and also found that the correct parts bolts on to the end of the crank (per Bentley) w/ 3 bolts. My crank only has one taped hole. The question is, how much trouble am I in? Can this be repaired short of finding a new crank and tearing down the entire engine? Help....

Sorry, I don't have a digital camera. From the Bentley manual (in the clutch section) there is a photo of the Crank/flywheel mounting flange. This shows the 9 holes for the flywheel and a set of three holes on a smaller bolt circle for mounting the pilot bearing. My new crank has only only one hole in this general location. I don't remember taking this bearing off when I disassembled the engine and it went to Comp Engineering with the flywheel for balancing. I was wondering if you had any pictures of the 87-89 pilot bearing. I looked at your website, but no picture existed. Thanks, Arnie |

Your 1987 has the G50 transmission, which doesn't use the same pilot bearing as the earlier cars which used the 915 transmission. Your pilot bearing is pressed into the flywheel - not bolted to the crank. So the pilot bearing for your car (931.102.111.00) should work with this crank.

The Bentley book is probably incorrect in this area... -Wayne
