Hi,

Rebuilding my 2.4T engine.
Is it normal that the chain ramps on the left side of the engine are not pushed as far back on the support bolts as on the right side?

Off the top of my head, the bolts are the same for the left and the right, or are you talking about the ramps in the housings?

The 4 ramps (2 black left, 1 black-1 brown right) inside the engine case.
The bolts are the same, but on the right side the end of the bolts sticks out further through the ramps.
Or to put it another way: On the right, the side of the ramps is touching the engine case. On the left not.

If I remember correctly the ramps snap into a grove on the bolts and should be the same.

Are we talking a milimeter, or larger distances? The pics in my book seem to indicate that they are about the same distance. They are turned around 180 degrees, so they might look slightly different when mounted.

Problem solved. The aligment became obvious when installing the outer chain supports and camshaft sprockets. It seems the right side was pushed too far back on the support bolts.
By the way, I was really confused about the cam timing. Overlap at TDC and actual opening time in ° before TDC did not match. Until I say the footnote that timing is measured with 1 mm clearance...
