I have some experience with 356's..but, none with 911's.
I found a '76 911-s for sale - with a damaged motor (advertised as needing a new long-block). I was reading on this forum, and I have seen some information on rebuilding your own motor..etc. I saw in the Panorama book and advertisement for a business called Motor Meister www.motormeister.com that advertises they can rebuild a motor like this for around $3,000.00..... does anyone have any experience with these guys and is this an accurate figure ? Never Mind... I did a search on this forum under "Motor Meister"..zikes !.... Anyways.. my apologies for not searching before I posted my inquiry. Thanks in advance, Tom Hudson Flint, MI http://www.embarassingmoments.com/356/toms%20356.htm

Tom,
Do a search on mm on this board then take your money somewhere else. Have a PPI done on the S before you buy it even if it needs "only a motor." There might be many other nasty things in there! What is your budget? The price on our cars seems to be falling recently so you might come across a cherry deal! I saw a nice deal in the want ads on Pelican not too terribly long ago.

Tom, don't forget to also search under simply MM, wouldn't want to miss anything
![]() If you can work on alfa's, you can do the same with P-cars, and if you have questions, we can help as well! good luck

Tom:
Seeing as you are in Michigan, I'd be wary of Autosports Unltd. in Holland. I recently bought a '74 euro Carrera that they had did a motor swap with a supposedly reman engine. The wiring is a mess, and I think it was more like a running take-out than a remann engine, etc. I think it turned in to a nightmare for the PO. Good luck, Francis Kennette Windsor, ON |

Ok here is my take on MM. I have purchased and sold many parts from them and a dream to deal with in those regards. They have inexpensive prices but MOST parts are very high quality (porsche OEM parts) I bought some venturies from them and they were excellent works of art. That said I don't know how they are on engine rebuilds. I can't help but think they probably do some good work and some don't always turn out the best as some could verify here I'm sure. I would take what most say with a grain of salt but be warned of the possibilty of a problem. There must be some reason they are still in business it is surely not a hobby.

I can assure you, MM's (poor) reputation is well earned. I've bought motor gasket kits (sent wrong one), cams (good but waited _months_), crank (billed as "perfect" but evey journal was waay out of spec). Their cam timing instructions were wrong until I brought it to their attention.

If you get the urge to talk with them, PM me first. The PO of my car had a documented $9k+ MM rebuild. I will detail for you the nightmare I have been living for the last 18 months.

MOTORSHEISTER:
Purchased weber kit from them, WHAT A NIGHTMARE!took my wrench about a week to get them to work.they had to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned because they were full of some gooey stuff we had never seen!Called good ole Roy and he said it was preservative!emulsion tubes wrong size, jets toooo big. the throttle linkage was all wrong since it would not fit inside the pivot balls!Good ole Roy said he would send another one. Yeeeaaahhh right. got tired of waiting, bought a new linkage setup elsewhere.I should have gone right to PMO "cause I am into these carbs for more than PMO's cost. I have no clue how they manage to stay in business other than praying on newbies trying to save a buck. I make it a point to let others here on the East coast to avoid them like the PLAGUE that they are. "CAVEAT EMPTOR" |

I know they have a bad rap. I am not sure how theys tay in business but they are always busy. I have had more problems ordering parts from other supposedly good parts houses not naming anybody. I am positive I will get burned at some point. I also have never purchased anything but carb parts from them.

Just finished up with them. Only took 8 months for them to clean , inspect, and machine my parts. I only spent $250 MORE for shipping than i was quoted. I was supposed to spend $1995 for the rebuild kit and ended up dropping $3800, but did get 964 cams, and other small upgrades and parts. When i got my motor back it looked like my kid cleaned it in his sandbox. My heads looked great and the work on them was great, I'll give them that one. They forgot to send me my cams. They forgot to send me ONE of my heat tins. They forgot my locktight. They sent me rod bearings for a 930, i have an 82 sc 3.0. The "easy three step process for setting cam timing" is actually 10 steps and requires a dial indicator ($100). The "comes complete with instructions for reassembly" means call Lee and sit on hold for 15 minutes and hope you have a Bently manual at the very leaste.......dont do it man....When i started out with them things looked good, i am doing my very best to let this all go behind me. If my engine runs the way i hope it will when things are done i will shut up about them forever.

I just finished a deal with them last week turned out great. That said I have never done the engine thing. I always have done my own stuff or had good local shops do some machine work. I am thinking of buying some other stuff from them next week but mostly I trade my parts for there new stuff. There spark plug wires sets are awesome and inexpensive to boot. I would give two thumbs up for there NEW parts that I have purchased from them. It is really to bad about there engine services I wish it were as good as it seems. They sound like a VW supply house and engine rebuilder called MOFOCO around here that seams to have the same problem.

Free country and everything but I wouldn't buy so much as a sealing ring from them, as it would support their business and indirectly their unethical and poor engine building practices. Cheap prices be damned.

I know what your saying. I don't buy to much from them mostly just swap parts. We don't have much in the way of of porsche swap meets in wisconsin so this is my only avenue.
