2L engines with 2.4 heads

Morning all, from UK!

I read in both Wayne's excellent book, and in Bruce Anderson's, that the best heads for a 2L race engine will be the later flatter style.

I have them both in front of me now, and measuring up I cannot see how it is possible to fit the later head, designed for 84mm bore, onto the 2L barrels at 80mm bore.

The counterbore needed for the head spigot will cut into the valve seats.

I assume the spigot is removed or reduced.

Since I plan to get this done very soon I will appreciate guidance please.

Kind regards
David

machining heads

Hello, Guys.

Well, I just took it all round to my local guru.

He reckons we can reduce the spigot of the barrel to only 1mm, which will allow the head to sit only a little lower.

I would really really appreciate input from someone who has done this before?

Kind regards
David

Hi there. My book (and Bruce's) is probably misleading here. You need a custom-made adapter in order to perform this, and it's not easy to do at all. The best bet would be to use 69S heads or early T heads and have larger valves put in them...

adaptor

Hello, Wayne.

How kind of you to put me straight on this.. I guess we need to make a ring from aluminium alloy with a flat face for the gasket and a rebate for the cylinder spigot on the lower side , and a groove for the ring seal to the head side?

And not very thick, if my measurements are correct?

Machining is not a problem if we have the general idea correct.

Kind regards
David
