No smoke from a rebuilt motor, is this right?
As some of you may know, I just installed my rebuilt 3.0L and started it last night. Well, I was expecting it to smoke on the first start up, because the rings are not seated. I warned the neighbor and the wife that it was going to smoke once I started it until the rings seat. So I fired it up, it spit, coughed, and sputtered a few times but , no smoke.
WHY? Should it have smoked a little ? The wrench told me that with new rings smoking on start up IS normal. Thanks Rick

Hi Rick:
LOL,......A brand new engine will smoke on startup depending upon how much oil the engine builder used on the pistons & rings in the assembly process,... ![]() Oil consumption will be higher than normal until the rings have full seated and that can take some time, depending on the technique and driving habits of the owner.

Eh, could be okay. A little smoke is good, and a sulfur smell is normal. I can't recall any rebuilt engines smoking like an old worn out one...
