timing rail questions

hi ,
I was installing the timing rails in a 911 engine, I cannot get them to click into position with the holding bolts , and the top one in the block is not sitting perpendicular to the case when torqued ?? Am I missing somthing simple?
I have read 4 differnt engine rebuild manuals and they say nothing about this,

Should I just wrestle them on with a big screw driver untill they are snaped into position, and about how much freeplay should there be when when I place them in correctly, When I torque them down now there is 0 freepy, something just doesnt seem right, I just did the head on my Mercedes and all of the rails had play for the chain.

Torqued? These snap onto the bolts?

You are talking about the plastic chain rails right? They should snap over the bolts. Only one of the holes has a "finger" that snaps into the groove in the bolt. If you press on the end of the chain rail that doesn't have the finger, the rail will tend to twist instead of snapping down.
Sooo, verify which end/hole of the rail is supposed to snap down and apply the pressure near that hole. Does that make sense?

I don't know if it is the best way, but I put the bolt in the case corresponding to the hole in the chain rail that doesn't have the finger/snap first. With the chain rail located by that bolt, I hold the chain rail in place (pressed against the side) and screw in the 2nd bolt.

I just typically tap them into place with a small, plastic hammer...
