Question How many miles is too many miles?

Assuming that a car has had the engine rebuilt, how many miles would be considered too many for a particular year car? At what mileage should the first rebuild be done or is it "as needed" work.

Also, (relevant only to this board): what the heck does "bump" mean? I have seen it a bunch of time as the only thing in the post...

Thanks!
Steve

A well maintained motor should never need to come apart before the first 100K miles.

During the second 100K you just need to know when its time for a valve job, reseal or complete rebuild.

Then again some people are lucky enough to go a quarter million miles before they need to do anything, but those people are probably being a lot easier on their cars than some of us are.

The exception is the 74 to 77 2.7 engine without proper updates. You'd be lucky to get 100K on ones of those due to the problems. Get the book for details.

Bump is what you do when no one responds to your question for a long time. (I get this a lot.) The new message puts it back at the top of the current message list so people read it again.
