What Rings with my JE Pistons and other quesitons

Hi all,

Some of you know that I'm rebuilding my 2.7 MFI. I have 4 questions:

1. I have JE pistons, they say 89M on the bottom of them. Does this mean 89mm? Isn't a stock 2.7 meant to have 90mm pistons? Does the piston expand?

2. What rings can I buy to go with these pistons?

3. What is the ring gap tollerance on all three rings?

4. How do I find out the compression ratio of these? The previous owner says 9.8:1 but he's a bit of an airhead and very unhelpful so I don't trust what he says.

For those of you who say call JE, I did. I was given such a hard time on the phone by their person that I was totally put off. Basically they didn't help. I'm not sure if the person I got just had a bad day but seriously, if that's customer service then these guys derserve to be out of business.

Thanks for the help!!!

Tristan

My JEs came with Deves Rings. The part number is POR.92.00 JE SP, but mine were for 92mm pistons. Call Don at EBS, he may be more helpful than J&E, and can sell you the rings. Their standard JE pistons are either 9.5:1 or 10.3:1, but you can get them custom, so yours could actually be 9.8:1. Measure your pistons with a micrometer. They should be 89.96mm or so at the skirt if they are for standard 90 mm jugs. They will be smaller at the crown. Nominal ring gap for Deves 90mm rings are 0.25mm to 0.45mm. I hope this helps.

Tristan-
My JE 90mm pistons say 89m on the underside as well. I'm sure that doesnot mean that they are 89mm. As mentioned, EBS would be glad to help you out.

Has anyone tried Total Seal rings?
I am thinking of using them in my 2.0S when I rebuild.
Any problems with that?
Bob

They are a pain to install. BTDT. I don't have any metrics on their performance. I will probably use them again for motors I build for myself.
