Turbo rebuild
I have been making a shopping list for parts when I drop the engine out of the 79 930 this winter and was looking at the turbo and associated plumbing and is coated with oil. I also found oil in the tube that goes up into the intercooler. The turbo still spins and spools up to where it should but since it is leaking do I just have to get a rebuild kit for it and is it something easy to do?
Also, one of the oil feed line to the turbo that is underneath the car in front of the bumper with what I think looks like a regulator or something on it is leaking pretty bad......what is this? thanks Brian

It is normal to have a little oil in the intake plumbing. It isn't that hard to rebuild a turbo, but you have to be very careful not to damage it. Do you have the orig. turbo in your car? If so I would upgrade to a K27 instead of rebuilding the stock one
I am not sure what you are talking about. There is an oil drain sump under the turbo. Is that what you are talking about? Post a pic of it.

Maybe that is what it is. It is maybe 7" from the turbo. Just a little bigger than a D cell battery in line with the line, but it is leaking pretty good.

sounds like an aftermarket turbo sump. loose fittings? scuffed thru from rubbing on driveways?

Or a bad gasket. If it is a bad gasket buy a factory one. I think it is special high temp material

If turbo doesn't smoke on overrun and shaft doesn't have excessive play, leave it. There is always oil in intercooler / hoses as it gets sucked up from crankcase ventilation.
Thing under it is turbo Oil-sump. It's commonly dented/scratched when pulling from driveways...your's might be leaking...

If its a stock turbo don't bother rebuilding it get a K27 Hi Flow from Imagine Auto. You will not be disappointed spools quicker and has more oomph than the regular K27.
The gasket you need is part number 930 107 116 00. The turbo oil drainage reservoir is part 930 107 001 07. Hope this helps
