can someone explain the #R case to me?
i have been following this forum now for 3 months. still feel new to all of this. i have read about 7R cases...some dude asked about his 4R case... i understand the 7R is the most desirable, what gives with the rest of the R cases? do they get better sequentially? by the way, i love when you guys put a motor together on paper, sorta like a "recipe" for a really fast reliable "german cake". hope everyone is still around when it is my turn.

cliff. Those are casting numbers on the cases themselves. The R I belive stands for revision. so a 1R is the first revision 2R second revision, etc.
I own a 1R/2R case (69-70) not sure why that one side was revised (int shaft bearings?) a 3R/3R case (71) and that got revised for case squirters a 3R/4R case (72)(new size for the dizzy hole a 4R/5R case (72/73?)(strengthening?) and a 7R 7R case (73.5-77)(more strenghtening?)

thanks alot, at the risk of looking/sounding really dumb... is there a (zero) R case? so my car should have a 7R case....i am going to crawl under and take a look later.

I don't belive there's a 0R case but who knows I just haven't seen one.
