my 3.0
what would be the benefits of going with a Mahle 3.2 piston/cyl set (93010398910) on the my 3.0 case? with 10.3:1 compression...
what else would I need to do? I have a chance at a deal on a like new set (NOS) for $1500 is this a good deal? |
Schuey...
1. More torque and HP because of the displacement. 2. More torque because of the compression ratio. THe 3.2 used no sealing ring on the heads. THe 3.0L did. Not sure which kind of cylinder you have, but I think it's okay either way. 10.3:1 is really pushing it with street gas and a single plug motor. Get a tank of bad gas and you will likely see detonation. I would either twin-plug it or run 95-97 octane to be safe, particularly in hot weather. |

One of the factors in pre-detonation is combustion temperature. Raise the ambient air temperature 30 degrees, the combustion temperature will likely climb more than 30 degrees due to warmer air charge and less efficient cooling. On a marginal engine or marginal fuel, that might put you over the edge.

Makes sense, thanks.
