2.8 short stroke question re: rods
Which rods do I use, the 2.2 rods that go with the short crank, or the 3.0 rods that go with the pistons?

A 66mm crank requires the use of the 2.2 or 2.0 rods. The distance from the wrist pin to the top edge of the piston is the same regardless of application.

Thanks Scott. Fortunately I have the rods, just need to get them reconditioned.

FYI, for everyone else:
- 66mm crank & rods - 3.0L pistons - 3.0 1976-77 Euro Carrera or 911 Turbo Case = 2.8 short stroke... -Wayne

Wayne,
What makes the 76-77 case so special, i.e., how do they differ from later Euro Carrera cases?

The 1976-77 Euro Carrera and Turbo (Carrera) had an aluminum case that can accept any crankshaft from 1965 through 1977. This allows you to plug this engine into any 914-6 or early 911 without any modifications to the transmission or clutch setup. This also allows you to build a short stroke 3.3 for use in these cars, or a short stroke 2.8 as detailed here. It's a very rare and useful engine case. -Wayne

Thanks for the insight Wayne. Perhaps you might consider adding this explanation to future editions of the book (or did I just miss it)?

Wayne -
One other thing, if I may. Are there any particular case numbers I should be looking for, like 930/52, 930/02, etc.? Thanks again for indulging me. Rich
