Threebond 1104 or New 1194 HELP!
I'm just about to seal up my case and I just noticed that my sealant supplier sent me threebond 1194 when I had ordered 1104? I went to the threebond web site and they don't even list 1104 anymore and list the 1194 as being "New". Does anyone have any experience with this I'm a little reluctant in using potentially the wrong sealant on my case.
Any information would be appreciated. I have a feeling that the 1194 is a replacement part# but I want to be sure. Thanks!! |

Well I'm going to reply to my own post with the answer I'm looking for and hope that the info will one day help someone else answer the same question...
So here's the scoop! I called threebond and according to them the 1104 has been discontinued because it has lead in it. It has been replaced with 1194 which the same product just a lot safer. So 1194 is a direct replacement to 1104. Hope this info helps as i'm sure others are going to be running into the same situation in the near future as the old stock of 1104 runs out. Cheers!! |

Thanks Strosek. I just ran into the same issue after trying to track down 1104.
How did the 1194 work for you?

It worked great! Just remember to have everything ready to go and have ALL your ducks in a row before you start laying it down because it sets up fast.
Glad my post was able to help at least one person lol.. All the best!! |

it works better than the Loctite 574 against oil leaks? I use on my jetski engine Honda Bond.

There is plenty of debate here about which sealer is the best. There are a few good threads on this forum to search out.
Cheers

Head to your local Honda or Yamaha dealer and pick up some Hondabond or Yamabond. Stuff works great. Put it on your case halve, let it tack up a bit and slap it together. The really are nearly identical so either works a trick.

I'm getting ready to reassemble my engine also, and it appears that the general consensus lately among many with experience is that threebond is the superior product to loctite 574 for case sealing. Is that a fair statement?

I used 1194 on my case halves as well, and not even the hint of a leak. Nice stuff. I can't compare to Loctite.

I'll be using 1194 on my heads-to-cam towers interface.

hi, I know a place in England that sells ThreeBond 1104 and ships internationally. If you want the guy's contact details, I wll gladly supply them.
He says his price to ship one tube to the US (all inclusive) is about $17USD. Am I allowed to give someone else's web address or email here, to share his info? Kind regards, Debb (in the UK) |

p.s. He has an eBay shop too: rexcauntracing -- but I think that may be more expensive than going to them directly, because of ebay and Paypal fees.

Another thing that is great about ThreeBond 1194 etc. is that it is easy to remove for the next rebuild. Wipes right off with Acetone.

Hi:
Do you apply a thin coat of ThreeBond 1194 to one case halve or to both halves? Thanks |

The difference between 1104 and 1194 is led.
Products with led are illegal in the US.

Henry, I remember you mentioning that the 574 is used on the bearing webs for its shear strength.
If I was going to use the 574 on the webs near the bearings and the three bond elsewhere. Would you think that shuffle pinning the case would be a good idea to supplement the shear strength of the 574 only being on the bearing webs? Sorry if I hijacked! |
