79 SC - removing heat exchangers - stud came out
Hi. I recently bought a 911SC and am removing the stock heat exchangers and muffler to go with SSIs and a sport muffler (I'm following Wayne's book - Chapter 44).
As I was removing the nuts, with a little WD40 and heat, 5 came off without any consequences/surprises. One, however, brought the stud out with it. I don't think the stud broke (actually, I should confess I don't know how long the stud should be) but there appears to be no fracture or break. There is also plenty of thread to use the rusted/melded stud/nut combo on the installation of the new SSI heat exchanger. Am I missing anything here? Did I do harm that I don't appreciate. Is it OK to use the stud/nut (I'll use new nuts for the others). Pics are below. Best, PB ![]() ![]() |
