OK fellow Pelcanites...Here's the deal. 78 3.0 rebuild in progress. Need to replace all my head studs. What should I use? Are steel studs OK?

I used all steel studs on my re-build. Street car, no racing, no track, just daily driver. ARP, Racewear, etc were overkill for my return to stock application.

I have just spoken with a Porsche specialist in Oz her about my rebuild. I am putting in 10.5:1 pistons and his recommendation is to go with steel head studs and standard rod bolts. He reccons that ARP and Raceware are over kill for anything other that an out and out race engine.
Would be good to have more feedback on this for both Andrew and myself. Cheers Mark...... |

no sense going ARP on a stocker. that one w/10.5 compression wouldn't hurt to have them. (the rod bolts). cheap ($225) insurance.

I am in the same situation on my 78 but was not planning on changing out the upper studs (only the lowers in 78+ were Dilivars). I only have lower ones that are broken. And I purchased OEM steel ones.
Is not replacing the uppers a bad idea? Thanks Jim

I have one broken on my 81 sc. Do I understand all of the bottom studs would be a minimum?
Thanks Kevin

the top ones are already steel, so no need to replace them. always do all the lowers, not just the broken ones.
