Tensioner Upgrades Required?
I saw another post in the Tech forum about rebuilding the non-pressure fed tensioners and using a safety collar to prevent total explosion. Is this an option for my 3.0? I want to do things right, but don't have the endless pockets it seems to take to bring my SC back to life. It is most likely setenced to be a garage queen when done anyways. Maine roads & weather are not the friendliest to vehicles. Nice way to go out to dinner once or twice a year I'm thinking. Thanks in advance.

Andrew,
This is a tough one. Do some research on the board. Many members have elected to "re-build" the original. Please keep in mind that they are stated by board members to be more prone to failure. I went with the newer style tensioners and have not looked back. I feel there is a better margin for safety. Besides, once the 911 is running you'll park the Miata and 318 in preference for a REAL car ;-) Please note, the Midget is great fun to drive also!

Hurricane,
I'll keep reading throught the boards. I am finding both sides have some valid points. I canno twait to drive this car. I waited 36 years to own one (911) and am anxious to have the "Porsche Experience". The 318 is the wife's summer car. I never get to drive it anyways. The Miata, I have found, is special in its own right. Quite a post in here about them vs the 911. Don't get me wrong...I know where my loyalties lie!!! Cannot wait either. Thanks for the input.

Ditto on review of opinions here. I opted for the oil fed tensioners, and have never been sorry. They are not all that expensive and if you're doing any other engine work, I strongly recomend them.

Andrew,
Hope I did not get a nerve, I was teasing you. I wish I had your stable of cars to choose from, well actually, I wish I had your Midget ;-) We have a ford f-250 and a chevy 1500 in addition to the Porsche. Can't pull German Sporthorses with cars... Oh, and Maine is pretty ALL times of year! I really enjoyed my visits there in the early '90's!

David,
Not at all. I didn't mean to imply that in the slightest. I was kidding with the loyalties statement! As for Maine being beautiful all the time, I can't say I agree..I am looking at 12"of fresh snow outside today. Yuk! I'll trade my MG for some of your weather. Take care. Andrew
