Reusing rod nuts
I have new rod bolts but forgot to order the nuts. Is it acceptable to use the old nuts?
I'm chomping at the bit to get this engine back together.

Yes, the bolts are stretch bolts but the nuts can be used indefinitly. Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct one but I can understand wanting to get a second opinion.

I went with new nuts as they are cheap and I remembered to order them when I ordered the bolts

I have seen several articles written on NEVER reusing a rod nut. I sincerely do not know or understand why, but I have seen this several places.

These are among the most critical fasteners on the engine; why are you even pondering the issue? A set is $15 and weighs almost nothing; if you order them now and and ship overnight you can likely have them tomorrow. Jim

Even though the evidence is anecdotal for and against I've decided to go ahead and buy the nuts. Hope they're here by Saturday.
Gotta keep ol' Wayne in suntan oil. Thanks guys!

Yes, I would recommend using new nuts as well.
