3.2 Litre head gaskets?
Hello all..
I'm kind of new to this forum so if I violate any BBS protocols or anything, patience please! Iv'e been lurking around for the last few months and am really impressed with the body of knowledge here. I hope to utilize it often. Also, Wayne, can't thank you enough for writing that book. I would NEVER have undertaken this project without it! Anyway, I'm in the middle of a 3.2 hot rod rebuild and am curious about the lack of head gaskets on this motor. I know Porsche designed it without any gaskets, but they started with a perfectly machined new surface on both heads and cyls. A rebuild is a different story. My sealing surfaces seem kind of marred, though no obvious evidence of leaks. Can these sfcs. be fly-cut to clean them up? Has anyone out there heard of adding a gasket of some sort? Is this even advisable? Is there room for improvement or should I just clean them up as best I can and trust that they won't leak? I will be using aftermarket pistons so will be checking piston clearance carefully. Presumably, any changes I make can be compensated for at that time. I should add that machine shop costs are not an issue here, so if there is a good solution, I'd like to hear about it. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Fritz |

The place I have my heads done "cleans up" the sealing surface as standard operating procedure.
