Unhappy Cracked manifold on 2.2T

Hi guys

I have a 2.2l T engine in my 914. It's been mostly lots of fun. Lately I have had a lot of carb popping on one side and I was hoping it could be tuned out but my mechanic says I have a crack in my manifold on that side and therefore the popping. What are my options here? He didn't think it could be welded. If I need to buy a new part is that possible or should I be shopping for a used part. Any suggestions regarding getting good quality used parts would be helpful.
Martin

you have a few options.. like having the crack welded closed, or step up and get a set of tall manifolds.... give a slight bump in the power dept..

If I still had mag manifolds and found a crack, Id open the crack up with a small round rasp... then fill the crack with some epoxy...

Im sure others will have better ideas

Smile The good news

Yes of course it can be welded and that's what I will do. Somehow I thought I would have to look for a replacement part.
Thanks guys.

I agree with TimT, epoxy. With the right epoxy, proper grinding a Vee, and proper cleaning/surface prep the repair can outlast the engine. Besides, it’s easy and cheap DIY.

Best,
Grady
