Fast forward 18 years since I started this thread. Good to see it still being discussed...

I wonder why Wayne's rebuild book says to spread it on the right side? On page 133 it shows a picture with the sealant applied - side mounted to engine stand with studs in it.

Is there are reason he specifies it this way?

Also, how do you know how the factory did it? (not being a jerk - just curious)

you can see how the factory did it if you have original workshop manuals...

But, does not mean 40 years later there is not better techniques and materials.....

Cheers

DP, the hone you are using is the same one I use and recommend to others .
It is designed for the nikasil cylinders that we have . I have been told by Brush Research to use , Mobil 1, 0-20 full synth oil for the honing process.
Allowing for six strokes for each cyl, my goal is an RA of 7-10. I have my own Profileometer .

I agree that the Brush Research 800 grit aluminum oxide is the best to revive our cylinders . PS, one hone will do aprox 200 cylinders at a cost of $250 per

Yes, it’s the best tool for the job. Literally 10 seconds per cylinder and they come out perfect. This brush wasn’t available when this post was started.

Interestingly, one of the builders in the usa, told me he uses the Brush hone with hot soapy water... and has been doing it forever...
