Fuel pumps for carburettors

Hi guys...

My 1980SC will soon inherit a 2.8 on carbs as the 1st stage of a backdate.

Can anyone recommend an appropriate fuel pump setup for such a conversion?

Currently runs a Bitz racing EFI with standard pump/filter/accumulator setup.

TIA.

Mark

I use two Red Top pumps in series, one in the smuggler box and one at the back.

Important is that you have pumps that provide a high flow at a low pressure.

Thanks H. Is there any point in keeping the accumulator?

PMO recommends a few, one is a Holley, I forget the version, but it's red! It works. Pump goes near tank as low as possible. Run hose from tank to pump inlet, then outlet to and through a PMO pressure regulator near engine. Then from pressure regulator through carbs then return line back to tank.

I use two Malpassi filters, one per bank, as pressure regulators

Not sure about the accumulator , I don’t have one

Arrow

I replaced the 78 CIS stock fuel pump with a new low volume pump;

It was an adventure finding the right size fuel lines, ended up with 7/16” ID for the 6” piece from the tank to the pump, and 3/8” ID from the pump to the feed.

This is a L shaped bracket I had on hand, just drilled a couple holes and it mounted in the stock location perfectly.

No accumulator, not needed and I think they are problematic with low pressure pumps.

Low pressure fuel pumps for that magical 3.5psi

I have found that most fuel pumps are not consistent in output pressure without a regulator. One day it is 5psi cold, then dwindles to 2 psi when hot.

Last time a carbed 911 needed a pump, I bought a 7 psi pump and regulator to dial in a consistent 3.5 psi that PMO's and Webers like.

Mr Gasket 9710 regulator worked well for 220 HP. Not sure if it would flow for more power.
Specs are 9psi max inlet pressure, adjustable 1 to 6 psi output.

Away for the week and just got back to this.

Thank y'all for the replies - seems to be several viable options.

I am going to try using the existing fuel pump and filter with a Malpassi 30044 Bypass Fuel Pressure Regulator and eliminate the accumulator.

Cheers,
Mark
