2.0L Head Gasket Dumb Question
My first 2.0L engine! Which way??http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087484671.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087484682.jpg

The perforated side goes toward the head. Have fun,Karl
|
Thanks now I dont have to dig out the factory manual
|
Sorry guys. No one wants to be a "KNOW IT ALL". The information provided by Karl is incorrect. Although it is really no big deal, if memory serves me properly, Porsche recommends that the perforation goes towards the cylinder.
On a race engine there is really no need for the head gasket. It does not seal the head. The combustion sealing is performed by the cylinder top. I believe the gasket was designed to prevent oil leaks during cool down. Either way the perforation goes towards the cylinder. |
Thanks Henry! Perfect example of why everthing on this
board is not fact! |
OK I dug out the Porsche Factory Manual, Henry good memoryhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087572299.jpg

Henry, do you use Head gaskets on the motors you build for Terry???
|
Why would'nt you use them if you had the option??
|
Henry might answer this better but I would think removing
it would raise the Compression ratio, and since I did my Compression ratio measurements already I opt to use the head gaskets. |
Hi Mark
On two liter engines that I build I use the head gasket. What I was saying is that it's not really necessary. They don't hurt, so I use them. If I was trying to make it to a race and didn't have them, I would go without. I make a spacer kit that allows you to use 2.2 heads on a 2.0 cylinder ( bigger valves, better combustion camber) and it does not use a gasket or CE ring and there have been no sealing issues.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087573359.jpg |

If the cylinder does not fit flush against the head then the engine will not seal. The head gasket crushes to a point where it does not effect the gap between the head and cylinder, hence no effect on the compression ratio. |
Thanks Guys......
Nothing like a little schooling on a Friday Morning. |
Im sorry I was thinking cylinder and typed head sorry again I feel like a dumbass. Karl
