Neat Collapsible Oil Return Tubes - What are they?
As part of sealing up the oil leaks on my 73S (2.4L MFI), I had planned to replace the oil return tubes with the Pelican collapsible ones.
However, the ones that came off my car are really cool, much nicer than the new ones, and I'd love to reuse them if I can find replacement seals - but I've no idea what they are or where they came from. They are beautifully machined aluminum items, with a large o-ring on either end, and two tiny (cross-section) o-rings in the overlap region. If I can find a great o-ring store in the East SF Bay area (?) I might be able to go in and find matches, but if anyone knows where these tubes came from, I might be able to go directly to the source. I know that they might be one-offs or something, but does of anyone recognize this type of tube, that might have come from a common vendor in years past? Any leads? Or, how about a great o-ring supplier in the east bay? Oh - one more question. Is it worth upgrading my clutch to the version that Pelican sells with the aluminum pressure plate? Thanks, Brian

Not all that rare Brian. I even have an old set laying around the garage somewhere. I think either Tweeks or Performance still sell them.

the aluminum ones are a pain to get in. stick with the gold colored steel ones. you HAVE TO use plenty of silicone paste as a lube or you won't get the green seals to co-operate. dow 111 is one brand.

Brian I would recommend the O-Ring supplier. If you can't get them from pelican, someone like www.marcorubber.com can figure out your application and what you need.

Thanks everyone. I found what look to be the same thing in the Performance catalog. I think I'll get seals and give the aluminum ones a try. If I can't get them in, I'll switch to the steel ones. My engine is out on a stand and bare, so if I can't the the aluminum ones in now, I never will!

If you need them right away, I believe Parts Heaven in Hayward carries both types, and probably has the seals as well.
