993 - 3.6 retro look ?
I found a good deal on a low mileage 993 - 3.6 motor/tranny; I would like to put it in a 72 coupe, but with high hp as possible and vintage look ?!
Any suggestions : - Best replacement for varioram intake : Weber, PMO, aftermarket FI ?? - Does the Hp justify the money to go to 3.8 ? heads modif. ? - Any other comments welcome... Thanks, John ![]() |

ok I was going to wait for the more experienced folks but I'll try something:
basically you can do 1. a mild cam upgrade without tearing the engine down and keep the stock induction (and therefore look), or you can do 2. a major cam upgrade and go to individual throttle bodies, whether that means webers, EFI, or MFI. This will very than likely require replacing your pistons for valve clearance and therefore tearing down the motor. You should decide whether you want to spend the $ on that. If you are tearing down the engine, buying pistons and cylinders, and you don't have racing rules to worry about, the 3.8 upgrade is a good idea, but all of this costs lots of $. if you mostly want the look, a 3.6 with stock cams will run fine on 46 webers, but it's really not a balanced package like the 2 above.

By all means do cams, chips, valves, headers and tlc on assembly It will make for very satisfying package. 3.8 is expensive but also nice if you are buying new p/c anyway.

the 3.8 upgrade is not a very cost effective engine mod. Steve's ITB setup has the cool looks of the tall MFI stacks and the versatility of EFI. Throw some wilder cams in, change the CR a bit and you will have plenty of power for your car.
