Question Exhaust Gaskets?

My kit had two different types of exhaust gaskets. One is all metal: shiny on one side and dull on the other. The other gasket is a composite with a metal ring in the middle.

Any advice as to which is better?

Which side should face the head?

The one on the bottom is the metal one the one on top is composite.

If memory serves me right, the composite ones are for the intakes & the metal ones for exhaust. If you are rebuilding at least the top end, there's no "extra" so different type needs to fit different places.

These are definately both exhaust gaskets. I got both types with the kit including metal or composite gaskets for the crossover pipes and turbo.
The intake gaskets are a different shape and have the notch for the injector.

Magic, I used the metal ones after my 930 rebuild, then the composite ones when I went in to fix the oil leaks I caused on my rebuild. It doesn't seem to make a bit of difference - both types have sealed just fine.

We only use the finest gaskets sets from Wrightwood Racing. Because every kit is made to order, there are no extra gaskets included. The reason you have extras is because the kit you bought is generic and made to fit two different years. I think you'll find that the gaskets are two different sizes. The smaller id fits early 930 exhaust and the larger id fits the later exhaust. If they are the same size they were packaged incorrectly.
Good luck.
PS: this gasket should fit snugly around the flange on the header.

I was about to ask the same question before I remembered the search function.

I only found a 0.012" difference between the two gaskets and they're both a little loose on my B&B exhaust. The fiber and metal gasket has the smaller ID so I guess that's what I'll use.
