911T engine: what are my options?
Hi,
My '68 911T 2.0 (110hp) SWB has been off the road since November as one of the pistons and cylinders needed changing (original part no: 901.103.903.90). Since then I have tried to source a used single replacement, or used compatible set of six without success. I am reluctant to pay the price for a complete new set and even then I can not find a manufacturer who can supply a new set of the correct size. What are my options? e.g. re-boring cylinders to a accept pistons/cylinders that are more widely available? Replace all or part of the engine? Would a complete set of 914/6 parts fit? Where can I find these used? What would you recommend? I have attached a couple of pics of the piston if this helps. Thanks in advance. ![]() ![]()

Unclezak, who uses this board often, is selling a 2.0L longblock on eaby. The bid is at $1200. Take a look and think about it. If interested contact him through this board. Here is the ebay location:

You could also upgrade to 2.2L pistons and cylinders, probably about the same price and would bump up your displacement by about 200cc's and keep your compression ratio about the same.

I think you have to change to 2.2 heads if you do the PC set. I think chamber shape and valve angler are different and not interchangeable. The case must be cut too. I could be wrong though.
Why not go for a set of 80mm JE's? Many people have been using them in high compression, high rpm race motors.

You have several options, And your choice is really based on budget and your intentions for the car. 1/ 2.2S New P&C $2728.95 USD from pelican, you have to flycut your heads, but you will get a comp bump. 2/ Bore your P&C and use JE Pistons to suit, has the advantage of you can customise the comp ratio. (pistons cost about $1K USD), 3/ New Nickies & JE Pistons, You get nicasil but at a price (3.7K USD) Either way i'd steer away from 2nd hand gear its unlikely to be in any better shape than what you've got. Contact your local UK early 911 specialists (Francis Tuthill, Autofarm etc) see what they say, several US companies will do the boring of the cylinders and supply pistons to suit, The 2.2 upgrade is popular as it doesn't alter the engine much but gives you 10%+ more power HTH Neven |
