beadblasting pistons
What are the thoughts on beadblasting pistons to decarbon them? seems ok for the tops, but what about the sides/skirts. ring grooves?

Be careful if you have Alucil P's as they are coated and you don't want to blast off the factory coating. A recent set of P's I got back from a reputable local Porsche shop blasted the top, ring lands and barely touched the skirts. He said that was common practice, but dont blast up/inside. I'm sure there are may opinions on this subject.

When i used to do clean up work for a machine shop, i used to blast pistons on occassion. What i did was i wrapped the outside with duct tape, and made sure to concentrate the blast at the crown, and angle away from the skirts. The machinist made it very clear that they didn't want any blasting done to the skirts at any time.
