SS Heat Exchangers missing MFI warmup components?
The stainless steel heat exchangers I bought for my 72 2.4T are missing 3 key hose connections for warm-up/normal MFI operation (see picture). I bought these exchangers several years ago, stored them away and only now notice this important detail. Is anyone aware of a solution other than purchasing another drivers side half? I'm thinking the connection marked with the yellow arrow (in the picture) is the Most important connection to the MFI and effects overall performance/efficiency. Seems like I could drill out and braze in a fitting for that hose connection easily enough. Anyone with opinions/experience with this?
Also, I'm assuming/hoping the warm air hose/valve to airbox (the other hose connections; yellow circle in the picture) really isn't that important. But, I don't really know. Looking for advise here... or better options. Can't believe I didn't notice this before now. Fred. ![]()

You can always sell this one and buy a single side. Alternatively you can make a flange from mild steel and clamp it right on that exhaust pipe. You want hot air. The 72 MFI uses a different hot air set up than the earlier cars.

yes, selling the one I have is probably the cleanest option. I hope they sell a stainless version like I need. Was considering fabricating and hanging a heat box of some sort but hate to make the SS exchangers look homemade ugly.

have a short tube welded on for the pump thermostat heat. SSIs don't come with the other large section for the intake air heat. you could always remove it carefully and put it on the SSIs, but you don't really need that intake air preheat flap system.

John, Thanks for the post. It is music to my ears. Do you know if the preheat flap system is only for warm up? (assume it really would not function at any other time.) Also, I'll remove the old intake air heat section as you suggested and keep it on hand just in case i want to attach it or reconstruct it later. Thanks much.

JPNovak, read through the link you directed and observed the block / manual operation options. Will keep those options in mind. For now I'll weld in a tube for normal MFI thermostat operation and remove the preheat flapper valve mechanism. Thanks for the help.
