Rebuilding Bosch fuel pump?

Has anyone rebuilt a Bosch fuel pump? I have a 76 930 with fuel leak. Upon further inspection I loosened a few screws on the cap of the pump and found a cracked o-ring. Can this be replaced and the pump reused? Should it be pressure tested or sent out to be tested? To whom or where? The pump worked fine but just dripped a bit of fuel. Tempted to replace the o-ring and test it out but would hate to have a failure (or fire) later on because of half-assed fix. Normally I'd just replace but I'm having a tough time finding a direct replacement. Thanks, Jeff

What is the part number? It is not an "001" MFI electric fuel pump, right?

The front fuel pump is a 1975 CIS pump that was used on the 75 cars in the left rear. It has the electrical connection on the side of the pump. A replacement shouldnt be difficult to get new. The rear pump is turbo application only.

I dont think these are rebuildable... But even if they were, why risk it?? If the pump goes bad while in boost, you might very well have a lean condition...causing major engine damage.... These pumps are very easy to find....

It's a CIS pump made by Bosch # 0 580 254 990. I can't find the specs (gph or psi) on this pump either. Maybe it's the same as the 75 pump Bruce is talking about. The electrical hook-up is on the side of the pump. Anyone have any info. Thanks, Jeff

Ive owned a 76 930 for 18 years. When the front pump went I used an SC pump which is the one the 77 on uses. The 76 Bosch number is Fuel pump,0580254990 is actually turbo specific. Sorry for the misinformation

Yes, checked the host. It is listed at $880 and last I checked NLA. Someone has to have used an alternate pump. Suggestions close to the same specs as 0 580 254 990??? Jeff

The $200 Bosch motorsport 044 pump in my daily driver is still working fine (and supporting 350+ RWHP as the sole fuel pump) two years after you first asked this question Which fuel pump????

Spuggy- Thanks for the update. I wonder if I replace that back pump with an 044 if I would have to put a fuel regulator in-line. Goes to show 2 yrs. and have yet to replace. Zero miles in 2 yrs. What a shame!!! Definitely need an easy fix. Thanks, Jeff

CIS system pressure is regulated in the fuel head. No need for anything else.
